Buffalo State College wants students to eat on campus, and has
many attractions and new ideas to encourage more of them to do
so.
One thing that the school hopes to have students excited about is
Subway coming to the retail food court for the fall 2012 semester.
The school also holds several promotions to increase interest, such
as the midnight pancake breakfast that usually happens during
finals week. There are many special programs upcoming through
the month of April as well.
“Taste of Italy” on April 21, will offer students in Bengal Hall an
Italian cuisine from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. “Taste of Jamaica” on April
26, will give students a Jamaican cuisine in Bengal Hall from 11
a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
“Decorate your own cupcakes” on April 25 will offer students the
chance to decorate cupcakes in Bengal Hall from 11 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. “Noche Latina”, a night of salsa and Latin American cuisine,
will be held in the Campbel Student Union lobby on April 20 from
5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
“We try to offer a diverse group of programs to expose students
to different types of cuisines and give them a variety of food to
choose from,” said Marissa Dinello, marketing manager of dining
services at Buffalo State.
A full calendar of all the special attractions is available on the
dining services website for students who would like to know more
about these and other events.
Outdoor seating has also been set up outside the union.
“We’re offering outside seating so that students can enjoy the
nice weather while they can, since we don’t get it for long here in
Buffalo,” Dinello said.
The new outdoor seating will provide a new and interesting
place for students to eat on campus as the weather gets warmer,
according to Manny Lezama, the senior director of dining services
at Buffalo State.
“It’s a good idea for the school to have outside seating,” said Sean
Kennedy, a sophomore business major. “It would be nice to be
able to eat outside if the weather was warm enough.”
Another way the school attracts students to eat on campus is by
offering a different WOW deal each week at one of the food court
locations for less than five dollars. Some items offered in April are
a Calzone, 6-inch sub, noodle bowl with an egg roll, and a single
smashed burger. Each comes with a fountain beverage.
“I would definitely be interested in purchasing one of these meals
if I were to eat on campus because I know I would have money for
it,” said Jake Zielinski, a sophomore biology major.
