American guitarist Jimmy Herring and Grammy-winning bass player Victor Wooten will be
performing with their respective bands at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Performing Arts Center in
Rockwell Hall.
The artists will be promoting their most recent releases, including Herring’s “Subject To
Change Without Notice,” released on Aug. 21, and Wooten’s “Words and Tones” and “Sword
and Stone,” released on Sept. 25.
Tickets are $37 to $45 and can be purchased through the Rockwell Hall box office.
The tour started on Nov. 1 in Charleston, S.C. and will end in Albany on Sunday.
Wooten said he promises to invigorate the crowds playing electric, tenor and upright
basses, cello, guitar and vocals with Herring as the lead guitar.
They will be joined by their bands and performing together throughout the night as well.
Herring’s band will consist of Jeff Sipe on drums, Neal Fountain on bass and keyboardist
Matt Slocum.
Wooten’s band is comprised of Krystal Peterson on vocals, keyboards and drums, Kelly
Gravely on vocals and drums, Derico Watson on vocals and drums, Anthony Wellington
on bass, keyboards and vocals, Steve Bailey on bass, keyboards, trombone and vocals, and
Dave Welsch on bass, trumpet, keyboards and vocals.
Herring said he is ecstatic about his pairing with Wooten.
“I’m really looking forward to doing this tour with Victor Wooten and his band,” he
said. “He is incredibly versatile and always in top form, Victor never has an off night. He’s
an innovator and we’re honored to get to play with him.”
Wooten said he shares in the moment’s musical possibilities.
“I’m honored to be touring with my friend and great musician Jimmy Herring. Our bands
should complement each other very well. I’m a fan of everything he does and am really
looking forward to seeing what we can do together.”
Herring is one of the founding members of The Aquarium Rescue Unit, Project Z and Jazz is
Dead. He has also played with everyone from The Allman Brothers Band and The Grateful
Dead, to Phil Lesh and Friends and Bela Fleck.
Herring is known for his limitless improvisations, long flowing phrases, and highly
charged yet soulful lead guitar. He has made his indelible impact on the music world and is
currently the lead guitarist for the popular band, Widespread Panic.
