Student death in communication department

The communication department lost a student this month. James Rodgers, a junior in the public
communication major, died Feb. 13.

Dr. Charles Kenyon, dean of students, said the cause of death is unknown.

“We had another student who passed away during the fall semester,” he said. “Unfortunately,
this kind of thing happens at least once a year.”

Kenyon said that a letter of condolence was sent out to the family.

Joseph Marren, chair of the communication department, said that although he didn’t know
Rodgers, he went to the wake to represent the department and give his condolences to the
family.

“We are saddened by the loss of one of our students,” he said. “It’s always a little more
heartbreaking when someone so young dies because they have a whole lifetime ahead of them,
and yet that’s ended abruptly sometimes. So, I would offer my condolences to the family and to
his friends and hope that there is some way we could all move on together.”

Any questions regarding Rodgers’ death should be directed to Kenyon at 878-4618.
