The sensitivity of the 21st century public was once again on display with the
recent “scandal” involving topless photos of the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate
Middleton.
It has been reported that over 200 photos were taken of Middleton sunbathing
on the lands of a secluded castle in the south of France while vacationing with her
husband, Prince William. It is easy to justify her outrage and successful legal action
to block publication. Other than the concern and complaints from the royal family,
this should not cause uproar with anyone else.
Yes, some of the photos have surfaced on the internet, but what’s the big deal? Just
another set in the cyber world, really.
The web is filled with much raunchier, darker content. Websites that unveil much
more than a woman rubbing sun tan lotion over her naked body shown through
a blurry photo. If one chooses, they can invade the privacies of a plethora of other
people with the click of the mouse.
This is just a woman sunbathing the natural way while avoiding tan lines in the
process. If she went to a tanning bed, the Duchess would be criticized because of the
potential health risks it would cause her. And it would probably be a bigger story.
This is not me “just being a guy” and not minding some mainstream boobage. This is
hardly a scandal. The publication of the photos were stopped and people who made
a consummate effort have now seen yet another leaked pair of breasts – and they
certainly won’t be the last.
This was not a case where Kate purposely exposed her body, then played dumb to
the whole situation just to receive extra attention from the media – something that
has been pulled before. She was also not a drunk European soccer fan flashing her
goods while sprinting across the field for a whole stadium of rowdy fans to see.
Yet, because of her prominence in the world, she is perceived as guilty by some for
allowing the family name to get negative coverage in the press.
No one’s life is changing from this. If you are not a member of the royal family, then
just take this as it is – some pervert with a camera sneaking a peak at naked Kate.
To be honest, it could have been much worse.
