Several Buffalo State school records were broken as the men's and women's track and field
teams finished third and second, respectively, at the SUNYAC championships this past weekend
in Cortland.

"The second-place finish for the women was the highest in program history, and third was the
best in a long time for the men, so we were really happy with that," assistant coach Dustin Dimit
said. "It was higher than what we were projected on paper to do, so the kids really stepped up
and performed."

The women's team finished second overall out of eight teams, which was the Bengals' best finish
at the outdoor SUNYAC championships in school history.

Senior Sasha Henry collected three first-place finishes, winning the 200-meter dash (24.57), 100-
meter dash (12.16), and she was part of the winning 4x100 relay team. In the 200-meter, Henry
set a new school record time of 24.57 seconds, good for the third-fastest time in the nation
heading into this weekend.

Henry, Jazlyn Porter, Shuntone Pricher and Patrice Johnson were the winners of the 4x100 relay,
finishing with a time of 48.69 seconds.

Junior Jazmin Dunham won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.15 seconds. The time set
school, championship and facility records, and was also the fourth-best time in the nation this
year. Dunham also finished second in both the 100-meter (12.34) and 200-meter dashes (24.61).

For her efforts over the weekend, and all season, Dunham was named SUNYAC Female Outdoor
Track Athlete of the Year.

Other strong performances included Cypher McCloud who placed second in the long jump
(5.56m), and third in the triple jump (11.16m). Treasure Glymph finished second in the triple
jump (11.17m), and Sasa Vann was also second in the 400-meter dash (58.55). All three athletes
earned All-SUNYAC honors for their performances.

Tara Murphy was third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.24, setting a school record.
Heather Becker also tallied a new school record, finishing third in the pole vault (3.10m)

The men's team also performed extremely well, coming in third place out of eight teams last
weekend.

Freshman Bumkoth Jiak won the 1,500-meter run (3:56.11), and finished second in the 800-
meter run (1:52.13).

"It was a great experience, you know, and it was pretty fun," Jiak said of performing in his first
outdoor SUNYAC championships.

Sophomore Rich Pete finished first in the triple jump (14.50m), good for the seventh-best jump
in the nation. Pete also finished fourth in the long jump (7.10m).

Senior thrower Jordan Fuentes won a conference championship in the discus with a throw of
45.17 meters, and placed fifth in the shot put (14.48m).

"It's been a goal that I have been working towards in my whole athletic career, so to finally
reach one of the goals I had set for myself is most definitely gratifying," Fuentes said. "I am
proud of the way my team competed and left everything on the track. How supportive the team
was of one another was great to see, as well."

Other Bengals also earned All-SUNYAC honors. Sophomore Alex Ngabo was second in the
1,500-meter run (3:56.17), and was third in the 800-meter run, finishing with a time of 1:52.56.
Freshman Cory Cox was second in the long jump (7.25m) and finished third in the 200-meter
dash (21.67).

Additional strong performances included Ron Major, who placed third in the high jump (1.93m).
Jimmy Campbell placed fifth in the 400-meter dash (49.19), and Todd Colas also placed fifth in
the 100-meter dash (11.10). The Bengals finished fifth in the 4x400 relay, with Ngabo, Campbell,
Dallas Taylor and Chris Clemons finishing with a time of 3:22.37.

Both teams will be sending a few athletes to "last chance" meets over the next two weeks in
hopes of qualifying more athletes for nationals.
