Chartwells plans campus food truck

The food truck phenomenon has made its way to campus as the route, menu and name of a
new Chartwells truck will be decided on by students.

An open forum will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the United Students Government Game Room
105G for students to give their input on a name for the truck.

Senior director of Dining Services Manny Lezama said that the parking committee has been
anxious to get some sort of food vendor providing services closer to the dorms and parking lots
near Grant Street.

"They have encouraged the progress and the interest in the food truck," Lezama said. "When
they came to me with the idea, obviously we are always looking to meet the expectations of
what the students are asking for. We believe there is value in the commitment that we have by
listening to their feedback and applying it to our ideas."

Lezama said the food trucks will add a trendy and unique aspect to dining on campus.

Although Chartwells does have some menu options, Marissa Dinello, director of marketing said
Chartwells wants the students to have a say in what goes on the menu.

"We want to create something that they're going to want to dine at," she said. "We want to open
it up to students so they can let us know where they want to eat and what they want to be eating
and then it's guaranteed to be successful for us."

The first draft of the menu to be pitched to students at Thursday's meeting will have an all-
American grill theme. Lezama said he feels the campus doesn't have a food venue that
resembles an all-American fair. He said that with an all-American theme, the truck could also be
utilized as a concession stand during games on campus.

"I've been at this campus for over three years, I think that I know the students pretty well as to
what they look for and what they're asking for and that comes through the feedback that we get
back from surveys."

Lezama said that the location of the truck on campus will also be decided mostly by students.

The truck will move around campus according to where events are held and heavy traffic areas.

"I think the student voice is going to make that call," Lezama said. "We're going to look at the
traffic. We're going to be able to read the activity of the campus."

Dinello said that once a name is decided, Chartwells will create a Facebook page for the truck.

"Students can follow the Facebook page and when they're in the mood for whatever this ends
up being called, they can just visit the Facebook page to see where the truck is posted," she
said. "So it will be easy for them to find out."
