Cabs now accepting Bengal Bucks

Students are now able to use their Bengal Bucks for more than food and printing.
A taxi company called Buffalo Transportation has begun accepting Bengal Bucks as payment for its
services.
"If students are out at a bar, they don't need to worry about getting behind a wheel because we are a
24/7 operation," said Phil Fragale, accounts manager of Buffalo Transportation. "The students are going
to be able to use their Bengal Bucks to get anywhere they need to go."
All students have to do is call the Buffalo Transportation dispatching service at (716)877-5600, say
they're a student at Buffalo State, where they need to go and give their card number, Fragale said. The
terminal at the dispatching office will then determine if the funds are available.
"I think the cab service is a great thing for students here on campus. It's something that I was really
excited for," said Marissa Dinello, director of marketing for Chartwells, which is the company in charge
of the food services on campus. Chartwells is also in charge of the program.
Dinello works with interested vendors and helps them get set up for Bengal Bucks Off Campus, a
program started just over a year ago. The program has already acquired a few vendors, including Buffalo
Transportation, CVS and eight local restaurants, Dinello said.
"A lot of students living on campus may not have cars here, and cash is usually tight for college
students," said Dinello. "If they have the Bengal Bucks available to them, which parents can very easily
add to their account through our website, it makes eating and transportation very easy for them."
With students living off campus in the Lofts, Dinello said it is important to have a 24 hour taxi service for
students who need to get back and forth to campus when needed.
"I know they have bus service available to them, but it's always nice to be able to call a cab and be able
to leave at your leisure and have your meal plan work towards it," Dinello said.
Students also have the opportunity to make suggestions as to what would make good venues for Bengal
Bucks Off Campus.
"We have a Be Heard page on our website," said Dinello. "If students ever want to write to us and
suggest a location that they would like to see on the program, they're more than welcome to do that.
We'll try our best to get them on."
As of right now, Buffalo Transportation is the only taxi service that accepts Bengal Bucks, which Fragale
hopes will positively impact the business.
"We've been accepting cash from UB and Canisius College for a while now," he said. "I think it's going to
help boost business."
