drag in Western New York.
Thursday night the Buffalo State Pride Alliance will host their annual fall drag show
titled, "Cirque du Drag," and this year it will be even bigger.
The aim for this year is to bring more excitement and energy to a larger crowd.
Since their usual venue, the Campbell Social Hall, is not available, Pride decided to
seek out Rockwell Hall as a larger venue, said Vice President Zakiyyah Simmons.
"We can fit a lot more people so we're expecting a bigger turnout. We're also trying
to vamp up the theme this year," Simmons said.
She said the Cirque du Drag idea is meant to take the performances one step further.
"It's like a circus theme, and we're trying to really incorporate the theme into the
routines of the show so it should be very big, very extravagant, very exciting and
very lavish," Simmons said.
In keeping with the long-standing traditions, Marcellas performers Fy'a Colby-
Valentino, Natasha Michaels, Robotika 2kay, Jayme Coxx and Kek Valasquez-Lord
will be featured throughout the night.
Performer Bebe Bvlgari will be hosting the show.
Pride Alliance President Shakora Purks said he is excited for the larger show.
Sarah Bearor, secretary, and Simmons said they agree that this show should be one
to remember.
"The Pride Alliance always puts on a show you won't forget," Simmons said. "It's
a night of hilarious, mesmerizing, and entertaining performers, great memories,
surprises, music and fun."
Performances from Buffalo State students will feature Ivanna P'cock, Mama Toto,
Spike Flohr, Fly Guy Shawn and Lil Sheazy, with special guest performers Tay Monet
from Niagara County Community College and Maverick Steel.
Although they're excited for the new additions, Simmons said the preparatory
process took them over half the semester, requiring permission from multiple
parties.
"USG had to give permission because funds coming from budget but also had to
directly ask Rockwell Hall," she said.
Throughout this period, the organization was negotiating prices and looking for
possible back-up venues.
"At first Rockwell Hall didn't want us to hold it there because they didn't want us to
have so many people or any damage to happen to the stage," Simmons said.
They were contemplating holding the event in either the Warren Enters Theater
in Upton or Donald Savage Theater, but both were too small and didn't make the
statement the show needed.
"We really wanted Rockwell," Simmons said. "Eventually we did end up getting it
but it took a long time."
The show is free and open to all students who wish to attend.
"It may not be the best show on Earth, but it's the best show on campus," Simmons
said.
