Buffalo State College's Pride Alliance will host their first poster contest from 6 to 8 p.m. on
Friday in the Pride Alliance lounge in Campbell Student Union 400.
Pride Alliance is an organization, funded by USG and the mandatory student activity fee, which
is an alliance for students within the LGBTQ community and its supporters. Its goal is to provide
people with the confidence that they are who they are and should be proud of it.
The goal with the poster contest is to bring people together for a fun night where they can
creatively express themselves while meeting lots of great people and enjoying some free food.
Zakiyyah Simmons, vice president, said she is really looking forward to the contest.
"The purpose with this contest is to get people to know about pride in a fun way," Simmons
said. "We're really looking forward to meeting new people and informing them about Pride
Alliance."
All materials will be provided to create a poster. All students need to do is show up. Upon
completing the posters, the creations will be judged and a winner will be picked for the best
poster.
The winning poster will be used in future Pride Alliance advertisements. With the possibility of
this contest turning into a monthly event, there will be plenty of chances to get your artwork
used in their advertisements, Simmons said.
Pride Alliance hopes to educate people about the LGBTQ community, although all are welcome
to attend meetings, regardless of sexual orientation.
The club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays during Bengal pause, and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Fridays
in the Pride Alliance Lounge.
Shakora Purks, president of the Pride Alliance, said he wants everyone to know that all are
welcome.
"This club is open to everyone and new members are welcome to attend any meeting," Purks
said.
Nickey Sereluca, the treasurer of Pride Alliance, said she wants to let people know that it's a
great organization that has a lot of fun.
Students can contact the Pride Alliance for more information by phone at (716) 980-5428 or
email at BSCPrideAlliance@gmail.com. They also have a Facebook page at Facebook.com/
BuffStatePride.
