Giants' victory a product of teamwork and professionalism

Only in Hollywood would a script be written for the 2012 San Francisco Giants.

They surprised the baseball world with a sweep of the heavily favored Detroit Tigers in this year's World
Series on Sunday.

After dismantling the New York Yankees in the ALCS, the Tigers' five-day layoff proved tough to
overcome, though the Giants also had much to do with stifling the Tigers' offense.

The momentum that the Giants carried after coming back to defeat the Cardinals was all they needed to
sweep the Tigers for the title.

The Tigers may have had the best hitter in baseball, Miguel Cabrera, and the best pitcher, Justin
Verlander, but that meant nothing to the Giants.

Hats off to the Giants. They deserved the title much more than the Tigers. Now it's back to the drawing
board for Detroit as they try figure out where they went wrong.

The Tigers are going to have some sleepless nights dreaming of Sergio Romo and Series MVP Pablo
Sandoval before Spring Training starts next year.

The stars were aligned for the Tigers. They had all the pieces in place to win it all. But the better team
did and now the Giants are the proud owners of two of the last three World Series titles and they did it
the right way - playing as a team.

There are no true superstars in San Francisco. There's just a group of consummate professionals who
left it all on the field Sunday. Ask Marco Scutaro - all 37 years of him - how it feels to be a champion.

Just because the World Series is over does not mean baseball is. The fun that the offseason brings is
slated to begin, and questions will be answered before pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training.

Rangers' talented outfielder Josh Hamilton is the prize on the free agent market this winter. Early
rumors say that he could be playing with Ryan Braun in Milwaukee next season. If you're a Brewers fan,
that's music to your ears.

Kyle Lohse is the big-name pitcher on the market and it looks like the Cardinals will let him walk. It's
likely the 16-game winner will have a new zip code next year.

There are many questions that need answers across the league this winter.

Will Alex Rodriguez put his debacle of a postseason behind him? The Yankees need to start clearing out
some of their dead money. Will A-Rod be a casualty? Will Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera return from
injuries and play like the stars they have been for so long?

Will Bryce Harper and Stephen Strasburg bring a championship to Washington?

Will the Giants enter dynasty discussion with a third title in four years?

Will 2012 surprise teams Oakland and Baltimore continue to improve?

What can triple-crown winner Miguel Cabrera do for an encore in 2013 and will recently fired Ozzie
Guillen get another chance to manage?

Can Kris Medlan continue to bud as a star pitcher in Atlanta or will he fizzle like John Lackey did in
Boston?

The offseason presents a chance for these questions to be answered and every team to try and improve.

Let the winter games begin.
