The Buffalo State chapter of Campus Girl Scouts will be selling Girl Scout Cookies now
through Dec. 6.
Members of Campus Girl Scouts will be in the Student Union Lobby every weekday
from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., selling cookies and letting people know about the new
organization.
Cookies will also be sold at two of the organization's upcoming events.
Mandi Torres, president of the Campus Girl Scouts, said that since the organization is
new on campus she hopes people will come to events like the cookie sales to see what
Campus Girl Scouts are all about, what's going on with them and what they're doing.
Sophomore Julie Caradori said she is excited that Campus Girl Scouts are selling Cookies
at Buffalo State.
"Girl Scouts Cookies are my favorite time of year," she said. "Thin mints are my favorite
because they're like a holiday cookie when I don't feel like baking."
Torres said it was important to bring cookie sales, which are usually an outside thing, on
the campus for students who live here.
According to the organization's Facebook page, cookies are non-perishable so people can
stock up on boxes of cookies now for crunch time at the end of the semester.
One recent even happened on Monday. All were welcome to attend the Campus Girl
Scouts Cookie Kick-Off on Monday night for "cookie-filled fun," according to the
organization's Facebook page.
Boxes of cookies were raffled off as well as sold; there was trivia with cookie prizes,
music from female artists, cookie tastings for reduced prices and much more, according
to the organization's Facebook page.
The Girl Scouts sold cookies for $3.50 a box, which will be the price throughout the
selling period.
For those who wanted to go healthy without eating a whole box, or wanted to sample
different cookies, four cookies could be purchased for $1. This deal will continue through
their other upcoming events, Torres said.
In case students or faculty missed the Cookie Kick Off, more opportunities to purchase
cookies will be coming up.
Cookie Bingo will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday in Bulger 2E with a $1 entry
fee.
Instead of traditional letters or numbers, the bingo boards will have pictures of Girl Scout
cookies and Torres said prizes will be boxes of cookies.
Attendees will be given a free sample of Thin Mint Ice Cream while listening to the
caller, who will be a member of Buffalo State's Friday Night Live performers, Torres
said.
"Scouting and LGBTQ Acceptance" will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday
in Bulger 2E.
The discussion will be facilitated by the Girl Scouts faculty advisor Heather Maldonado
And will focus on scouting's traditional values and adaptation to society's new views on
the LGBTQ community.
The group will also talk about the differences between Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts on
this topic, and hear both positive and negative personal stories regarding scouting and the
LGBTQ community, according to the Campus Girl Scouts Facebook page.
Torres said these three events are being held in an effort to spread the organization's
name in an interesting way, while still holding true to traditional Girl Scout values.
She said she hopes the cookie sales will be an interesting way to get their name out there.
Torres said she thinks people should invest in the Campus Girl Scouts through their on-
campus sales.
"Half of all proceeds come back to our troop and becomes the troop's funds. The money
will fund our activities on campus," she said.
Some new cookies have been added to the traditional Cookie options.
The cookies being sold this year are Thin Mints, Samoas/Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter
Patties/Tagalongs, Trefoils/Shortbread, Do-si-dos/Peanut Butter Sandwich, Lemonades,
Savannah Smiles, Thanks-A-Lot, Dulche de Leche, Mango Cremes and Thank U Berry
Munch, according to the Girl Scout's website.
