Congrats to grads: take next step with gratitude

Another season, another semester and another school year have passed us by.
Within the next couple of weeks, sights that typically coincide with the end of the semester will be
unveiled across campus.
Ready to take on the rigors of CEP week, students sporting shorts and tank tops will make prolonged
treks from the parking lot to their classroom building with nothing but a pair of No. 2 pencils. Some will
begin packing their tiny dorm rooms - their home away from home - into their cars before returning
to their loved ones. Others will linger around to take on summer classes.
For some of us, though, this is it.
Graduation is just over a week away. Seniors have begun to experience their last hurrah in several facets
of their undergraduate lives.
This is their "last" last week of classes. They'll never again have to suffer the painstaking hardships that
CEP week presents and the term "final exam" has never rang truer.
As such, the Record's editorial staff would like to extend an emphatic congratulations and good luck to
those students leaving Buffalo State for good.
You spent at least 120 credits worth of your time here. Your dedication to academic excellence will
reach its pinnacle when next Saturday's commencement ceremony introduces you to the real world. It's
a big deal that should be celebrated accordingly.
Like you would for any milestone achievement, surround yourself with the people that you care most
about for next week's festivities. It's unlikely that you made it this far without a support system guiding
you along. Celebrate with and show gratitude for those stabilizing figures.
Enjoy the next week and a half. You've earned it. Tackle the forthcoming new adventures with an
ambitious attitude - one that leaves you eager to continue learning and meeting new people. You're
moving on to a new beginning. For every person you leave behind, you'll establish a new connection
somewhere else. Embrace each relationship you form with those around you.
For those of you not moving onto the next chapter of your life, have fun over break. Spend your time in
stress-free environments with people close to you. Take a trip somewhere you've never been, work and
earn some money, or even do a summer internship - do whatever you like with the wealth of free time
now afforded to you.
And please, come back to Buffalo State in one piece.
Before you know it, you'll be taking that next step, too.
