CDC Boot Camp preps students for upcoming job fair

Prepare to get your fitness on so you can beat the competition at Buffalo State's upcoming job
fair.

The Buffalo State Career Development Center (CDC) will be hosting a Job Fair Boot Camp on
Thursday, March 7 to help students prepare for the Job Fair on Thursday, March 14.

This is the first time that the CDC will be hosting a Boot Camp to help students "get in shape"
for the upcoming Job Fair. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Union
Social Hall. Students will be able to visit each station to have their resumes and cover letters
reviewed, strengthen their interviewing skills and learn how to make a memorable impression on
employers, all for free.

"We designed the stations around the skills that students need for the Job Fair," said Jessie
Lombardo, assistant director of the CDC.

The Boot Camp is intended to show students exactly what to expect at the Job Fair. It will also
be in the Student Union Social Hall from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. During the Fair, students will have
the opportunity to meet with representatives from over 35 organizations without leaving campus.

"Students can talk to a lot of employers and learn about new opportunities that they might not
have known about," said Lombardo.

Those employers are looking to hire students for full-time positions, as well as internships in a
range of academic areas. Students should dress in business professional attire and bring multiple
copies of their resume. If they would like to meet with a counselor to look over their resume
prior to the Job Fair, they can bring it to Boot Camp or call or come in to the CDC to set up an
appointment.

For both events, the CDC will be offering free t-shirts for the first 50 students that arrive.

Participating students will also be eligible to enter a raffle for a free gift card to purchase
professional clothing.

There is an added bonus for campus organizations that attend the Boot Camp and the Job Fair:
the CDC will be hosting its very own March Madness Competition. The top three student
organizations with the highest percentage of members in attendance at each event will win
cash prizes from the CDC. The organization with the highest percentage of participants will
be awarded $150, second place will win $75 and third will be receive $50 to use towards their
group's activities and any needed supplies. Any student organization, including clubs, teams,
fraternities and sororities, honor societies and intramurals are eligible. Organizations do not need
to be recognized by USG to compete.

In addition to the Boot Camp and Job Fair, the CDC offers many other events and resources
for current Buffalo State students, as well as alumni. On Thursday, April 25, the office will
be hosting its annual Senior Job Search Day to provide graduating seniors with the chance
to prepare for the next step after graduation. The CDC also hosts workshops about writing
resumes and cover letters, interviewing, job searching and more. Any current student interested
in meeting with a career counselor can call or come in to the CDC to schedule an individual
counseling appointment.
