I don't seem to agree with many of the other comments on here. While I can see where they might be coming from, I don't think they are very representative of her. At times can be slightly condescending, but it's rarely uncalled for.
Okada's difficult. Her exams are difficult, she grades papers difficult, but with that being said, it's still not a bad course. She knows what she's talking about and the movies she shows are (with the exception of Battleship Potemkin) enjoyable. Take her if you don't mind doing the work.
terrible prof.. Her courses are completely pointless and devoid of sense. She is a rude person, a bad teacher, and an overall pessimistic, feminist nut. Going to her office hours is like a trip to the DMV: very long wait and completely rude and offensive when she comes. Do not take this class.
impartially misunderstood--her courses are for people who want to learn more about film, not those who just want to watch movie and get an simple A. Somewhat moody and not always lucid but between the readings and discussions, you can figure it out. exams rely heavily on textbooks and discussion so attendance is recommended. Took 3 courses with her total.
Worst prof. you could ever get. Makes no sense while she is teaching.
READ THE TEXTBOOK - all questions come from it verbatim. Her lecture is mostly pointless unless you don't read. Film screenings and recitation sessions are important. Very few grades, so be careful. |
