The thing that bugged me the most about Stolee was that she always went off on tangents during class. Its almost like she knows too much about Russia. I could never find a great way to organize the notes I took in class and so I always felt overwhelmed. Oh, and that 10 page research paper isn't too much fun.
Hands down, one of the worst prof.s I've ever had. She has an extraordinary feminist bias, which she forces on the class at every opportunity. This philosophy permeates her teaching, which is both inappropriate and distracting in a history class. One of the worst prof.s I've have in my 3.5 years at this school.
Difficult prof.. Unclear about what she wants. A novel a week plus many papers, including a 10 page research, a final paper and a final exam. She was friendly, but doesn't care. Class was majority discussion which made it difficult to do well on the exams. If you can avoid taking her, do it. If not, not the end of the world, but you'll have to work
I liked her, makes the class fascinating, grades papers friendly of difficult, but you can bring them to her ahead of time for her to read, which id say is a MUST do, really improved my grades on them. Also many opportunites to attend movies for bonus which helps alot too. Overall, if you show her you are dedicated, & work difficult, you will probably do well.
She is really, really, really bad at just assuming you know minute details about history. Went to every class and got a 40 on the mid year exam because the questions were on random things she mentioned for a minute or two from one class( 2.5 hour/1 a week) Reading a novel a week is ridiculous on top of other work. Taking her is worse than a full time job
Dr. Stolee is very knowledgeable of Russian history, however she goes off on tangents frequently. It sometimes takes her a while to get to her main point. Her grading is very difficult, and she takes forever to give papers back. But she does give many options for extra credit, which helps. Okay teacher in the end, but not a must have.
Dr. Stolee is great. She understands that people taking Russian History, don't know the language. She spells things out and explains things that might be confusing. Her exams are well explained and she hands out copies from the previous year to see what they are like. She tells personal stories and talks to students at the same level. GREAT!! |
