USG senate grows by 20 new positions
Buffalo State's United Students Government has recently decided to increase the number of senator positions from 20 to 40 people.
USG President Sara Garfinkle said 20 senators was not efficient enough to serve 10,000 undergraduate students.
"I think this increase will benefit Buffalo State by having more people represent the undergraduate students," she said. "The senate will also be filled with a lot of diversity so we will have different viewpoints."
USG represents the students of Buffalo State College and works with the student organizations across campus. In order to become a senator students must maintain a 2.0 GPA, attend a weekly senate meeting, attend committee meetings and represent the students of Buffalo State College.
"I feel the decision to expand the senator positions is very effective, and it allows more students to be involved," said Justine Britten, vice treasurer of USG.
A USG senate with twenty senators wasn't as effective for the student body, so with forty, it will allow for more discussion with a diverse group of people, said Ohanes Kalayjian, USG Senator. There has already been nine or ten people voted in, and USG is still taking in applications.
"I support this increase because it gives more students a voice on campus and it brings students with different viewpoints together," said Garfinkle.
The application for the senator position is located on the USG website at usgbuffstate.org.
