On June 22, a team of Buffalo State faculty will be biking in the Ride for Roswell for the fourth
consecutive year. So far, there are six members on the team.

According to the Ride for Roswell 2013 website, there are several routes to choose from. These routes
include four "Country Rides", five "River Rides", two "Family Rides", and the Peloton.

The Peloton is for those who raise $1,000 or more, and they must do a training-safety beforehand. Those
who choose to take the Peloton have the option to ride on Friday and Saturday.

The minimum pledge for adults is $150. For children age 14 and under, the minimum pledge total is $50.

All of the routes start at Baird Point at the University of Buffalo with the exception of the Peloton, which
starts at Roswell Park. The Opening Ceremony for the ride and the Peloton will take place June 21.

Jennifer Jackson, instructional support associate in the biology department and participant in the ride, said
that any Buffalo State student, faculty, or staff member can take part in the Buffalo State team. In addition,
anyone else interested can join regardless of whether or not they have an affiliation with Buffalo State.

According to the Ride for Roswell site, one out of two men and one in three women in America will be
diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. This had provided incentive for many people on and off the Buffalo
State campus to participate each year.

"Just because you may not know anyone that has had cancer, it could affect you later down the line," said
Gwendolyn Veira, staff assistant in Continuing Professional Studies and another participant in the ride.

Community outreach is another incentive.

"It's a great opportunity for people to get the name of the college out," said Jackson. "We are involved in
the community and we do care about the well-being of this area."

"I think it's a really good cause," said Sean Connors, distance learning and COED coordinator in
Continuing Professional Studies and another participant in the ride. "It's a really good community effort.
It's making a difference."

The participants also say that they are hopeful that the number of people on the Buffalo State team will
continue to increase over the years.
