Men's club rugby team earns first home win, 48-28

The Buffalo State men's club rugby team, the "Mad Dogs", may have shown that they deserve varsity
sport recognition following a dominant 48-28 victory over visiting Ithaca on Saturday.
This is the first win that the Mad Dogs (1-1) have collected on their home field in over two years during
the fall season and they did so in resounding fashion.
After a tough defeat last week at the hands of a fellow SUNY school, Geneseo, the Mad Dogs busted
out of the gate right from the start scoring on multiple tries, keeping a tough Ithaca squad on its heels
throughout the game.
"We came out from the start of the game all the way to the end and we kept pressing, and that's all you
could ever ask," head coach Robert Jenkinson said.
Coming out of the half up 31-14, the Mad Dogs continued to take it to Ithaca. It was not until the later
stages of the second half that Ithaca put substantial points on the board, but the Mad Dogs were in
complete control at that point.
Leading the way for Buffalo State was wing player Joe Lamarca, who scored on a game-high two tries in
the first half.
Edem Wade said that even if you're in control of the game, letting up is never an option - the team is
constantly focused on putting points on the board.
"We had to let ourselves know that the game wasn't over," Wade said. "Our motto is every time we
score its 0-0. We can't let up the gas ... If you're winning by 100 you keep playing the way you were
playing when the game first started".
Senior captain Jayson Dieckman was pleased with the Mad Dogs' drive throughout the game.
"I'm really happy with it, we played with a lot of intensity we haven't seen in a while so I'm happy with
it," Dieckman said. "A lot of our bigger guys ran hard. They ran with support; they were there for each
other the whole game."
The Mad Dogs continue their home stand against rival Fredonia on Saturday. Jenkinson is confident that
the team can come out on top.
"Next week we are going to have a tough opponent in SUNY Fredonia," Jenkinson said. "They are a
very hard-hitting and well-coached team. We're going to need a couple things - there were a couple
opportunities that I saw here, we have to be a little bit quicker in support and a little bit better at
rucking.
"We will work on that in practice and that should take us to the next level for next week."
