Keep your focus on the way to CEP week

With our bellies still recovering from Thanksgiving indulgences and a tryptophan
crash, it's time to focus on the last few days of school and the exams looming in the
near future.
Some of our bodies may not have readjusted to their regular sleep schedules, and
some people may still even have leftovers to eat. But although the not far-gone
break offers a favorable mindset, there is much to do.
Everyday obligations like classes and work are jumbled in with the need to wrap up
last-minute projects and forgotten-about tasks, while trying to keep studying near
the top of the list.
It may be tempting to slip into bad habits, especially for those of us who are close to
graduation, but that will do no good in the long run.
Instead, pick one assignment at a time and focus on finishing only that task before
allowing yourself to think about anything else.
This can make a longer list seem less daunting.
Or if you're having trouble with procrastination, work in intervals. Work on your
assignment for 25 minutes, then take five minutes to reward yourself with internet,
a snack or anything you prefer. Evidence suggests working in a cycle like this helps
prevent long periods of distraction.
With only a handful of classes left on our respective dockets, CEP Week will be upon
us before we know it.
We will all soon be stressing over our assignments, eyes glued to our notes, in
preparation of our last chance of the semester to score a good grade. For some, this
means passing or failing a given class.
Fortunately, Study Day and Relaxation Night are not far away. Each semester, the
United Students Government sponsors a night filled with fun activities to de-stress
and unwind after hours in the library. It's free to participate, so take advantage of it.
It's okay to put your obligations out of your mind for a while and enjoy the
remaining time you have. After all, no one can think about school all the time.
However, neglecting your academic duties will result in some less-than-desirable
outcomes when it's time to look up your grades.
Don't wait another minute to finish that paper that's been staring you in the face
since October, or pull an all-nighter and show up exhausted to that crucial test.
Professors can spot a rushed project from a mile away.
Set up a reasonable schedule and stick to it. You'll be more organized, and you won't
become overwhelmed by work at the last minute.
Even we here at The Record are passing up on opportunities to sit around in favor of
staying up late to finish laying out the paper.
So get your snacks, books and coffee ready, because we've got some long nights
ahead of us before this thing is over.
