Dress appropriately this Halloween

Happy Halloween! I love this time of year.
There's colorful leaves, fresh autumn air and excitement that comes with planning Halloween
costumes. As fun as this time of year is, though, I can't get over one thing.
Ladies, now that we're older, why are we starting to wear costumes that would've fit us when we
were in fourth grade?
Halloween gives us the annual opportunity to use our imaginations and dress up as something
that we're not. It shouldn't be your chance to wear close to nothing.
This is the perfect time to pretend that you are your favorite celebrity or character. You can make
believe you're them for a night AND maybe even get candy! Why does this fairytale holiday
have to turn into an occasion for skimpy costumes?
I'm not trying to judge. I mean, if you can look good in a skin-tight costume that you can barely
breathe in, you go girl! More power to you.
However, why is it appealing to you to have people see that much of you? Quite frankly, I feel
bad for women who want to wear inappropriate costumes just to get attention.
For example, I've been seeing invitations on Facebook to various Halloween parties and events.
The promotional advertisements include pictures of women in costumes that fit them like Saran
wrap from Halloween parties in the past. I'm sure those pictures are very effective and catch the
attention of many, but it isn't for the right reasons.
The pictures of those women are going to end up all over the Internet, and anywhere else the
event coordinators are advertising for their party. Tons of people are going to see those women
half dressed. That just makes me so sad for them.
I'm going to make a proposal: let's make this year's Halloween different. Let's respect ourselves
and cover up, ladies!
If you honestly don't have a costume that fits you properly or is appropriate, I'll help you! I have
plenty of costumes from years past, including Disney princess costumes, Mrs. Potts from Beauty
and the Beast, Lady Gaga and many more flattering outfits I had fun in.
This year I want to be a milk carton. If you'd like to help me build it, "holla at me!"
Costumes can bring joy to those wearing them and everyone who gets to see them. I have good,
clean fun with Halloween and I wish other women would too.
You still have time before the holiday to think of the best costume ever for yourself to wear. Stay
classy and respectable by dressing up as your favorite singer, movie star, or even your favorite
source of calcium. You'll have the best costume at the party, because you'll be wearing it with
dignity and confidence.
It's hard to ignore the skimpy costume craze, but I'm asking my fellow female Bengals to be
brave enough to make this year different.
Have fun, use your imagination, and love yourself enough to cover up. I hope you all have a
healthy and happy Halloween.
Just make sure to save me your extra 3 Musketeers.
