Community leaders along with Buffalo State administrators, faculty, staff and students
crammed into the Campbell Student Union for a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Thursday
to celebrate the completed renovations on the third floor.
Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown who attended Buffalo State as an undergraduate student,
addressed the crowd in congratulations regarding the accomplishment.
"The Union's renovation is just another example of the great progress that's taking place
in the city of Buffalo and certainly the progress that's taking place right here at Buffalo
State College."
After almost one year of renovations costing $5.6 million, the third floor project has
completed the Union renovations, leaving students, faculty and staff with improvements
to the Social Hall, Fireside Lounge, Assembly Hall and main lobbies.
Sara Garfinkle, president of United Students Government said the newly renovated area
will be beneficial to the entire student population.
"With the Union renovations officially complete, this building will continue to be the
student's home away from home when they are not commuting, dorming, or in classes,"
she said. "I look forward to seeing the endless possibilities that this building now offers
students and I hope that everyone takes full advantage of these beautiful facilities."
After the ribbon cutting all attendees were welcomed to a tour of the third floor
facilities along with food, refreshments and live music.
"I encourage everyone to tour the building," said Hal Payne, vice president of student
affairs office. "You won't believe the new building--it is transformed."
The third floor of the Union is now open for student activities and faculty and staff.
"I want to congratulate everyone who has played a role in bringing us to this day," said
Brown.
