College completes rebranding effort
Buffalo State has made a few changes to its identity. A new logo and a new "short title" have been decided on and are already being used on several of the college websites.
The new crest, an image of the Rockwell tower with elm leaves along the side, represents Buffalo State's educational impact in the community, according to Tim Walsh, associate vice president of college relations.
"The iconic clock tower on Rockwell Hall is a very visible landmark in the community, and so we felt that was important and immediately identifies us," he said. "The elm leaves point to our location within the Elmwood community."
The crest also features the phrase "Dedicated to Excellence," which was taken from the Buffalo State mission statement.
"Elements of the new crest aptly capture Buffalo State's academic excellence and build on our historic significance in higher education," Buffalo State President Aaron Podolefsky said in a press release. "Its look visually evokes a message of educational vibrancy that remains a central tenet of our institutional mission and vision."
Walsh said there are different versions of the logo that can be used. Students or faculty may go to the College Relations website to download or print different variations of the new crest.
"The different variations help with our identity," Walsh said. "It's more flexible to be able to promote who we are."
Buffalo State's new short title includes two options, "SUNY Buffalo State" or "Buffalo State," replacing the former short title "Buffalo State College."
"By integrating the short name with the new crest, we are clearly communicating who we are as an institution," Podolefsky said.
Walsh noted that a school logo was missing around campus and that the different variations will help students identify with Buffalo State.
"This is Buffalo State's new identity, and students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community will begin to see it everywhere throughout campus," Walsh said.
