New media technology aids BSC-TV

With over 81 student organizations on campus, it may be hard to notice them all. That's why
Buffalo State's television station, BSC-TV, is slowly making strides to glisten amongst the rest.
BSC-TV is a student-run organization that produces shows and allows students to host television
segments and display acts of talent.
"BSC-TV is what made me want to get into television; it has definitely been a college changing
experience for me," said senior Michelle Mastellone, BSC-TV's president.
Mastellone also mentioned that over the past two years, the station has revamped a little by
adding a new desk, a soundboard and new cameras. She said she hopes the budget they recently
received will enable the television station to get additional and better cameras as well as other
new equipment.
Seen on campus on channel three, BSC-TV hosts two live shows each week and offers coverage
of on-campus events. Mastellone said that new equipment would make even more coverage
possible.
Every Thursday during Bengal Pause, BSC-TV has their live news, entertainment and sports
segment which runs about a half hour long.
Host Gyllian Dunkley said she touches on a variety of different topics, as if she were reading
from a newspaper. She also said she likes to keep the segment interesting and spontaneous.
On Fridays, their primary show is their other live segment, Tower One Forecast, or T-1 TV,
which airs at noon.
Hosts Calvin Gwinner, Lucas Curtis, Jason Smith and Korey Carlson talk about an array of
topics, ranging from their personal lives to pop culture, including video games, soccer and
whatever happened that particular week.
"We hope to make people laugh," Curtis said.
The hosts of T-1 TV said they'd like to take their show on the road, filming field events or
Saturday Night Live skits.
When brought to their attention, the station will cover events around campus, such as the
veteran's parade and Silverscreen movies, which are short films made by other Buffalo State
students.
Another production is BSC-TV's live 12-hour marathon, which runs around the end of each
semester. It touches base on sports, news, events, organizations and other forms of entertainment
that Buffalo State students can raise to BSC-TV's attention. Students interested in showing a
film or segment during the marathon can check out the campus bulletin boards a few weeks
before the end of the semester for details.
Many of BSC-TV's members said new equipment could enhance their respective shows.
"I'd like to have a projector," Dunkley said. "When I'm talking there could be a picture of the
topic behind me, so the audience would have a better idea what or whom I'm talking about."
BSC-TV's 20 members meet weekly on Tuesdays during Bengal Pause. If interested in getting
daily updates or just seeing what BSC-TV is up to, students can follow them on Facebook and
Twitter.
During all of the station's live broadcasts, a phone number is displayed in which students
watching can call in to ask questions or comment on what is being viewed.
Any student can be a member of BSC-TV, though they aim to lure in students interested in communications, broadcasting, public relations or production.
"Sometimes class rooms can't teach you everything, BSC-TV definitely taught me what I won't
be able to learn in a class room," Mastellone said.
