Tattoo decisions take time, tolerance, total commitment

Just about everyone has thought about getting a tattoo at one point or another.
Their friends may have one, or their parents may have one, and there are many other reasons for
wanting one.

There are also many arguments against getting one.

For one, they are painful. For some, it is the worst pain they have ever felt.

Secondly, there are many who later regret the tattoos that they got when they were in their early
twenties.

I feel that a person should be free to mark their own bodies however they wish. But if you don't
have a tattoo already, you should think long and hard about it. Agonize over it. Carry a picture
of it around with you for months. Make sure that you are willing to have this image placed onto
your body for the rest of your life.

There are other things to take into consideration as well. If you do not have a high tolerance for
pain, acknowledge and accept the fact that a tattoo may not be for you.

You might hear from some that it did not hurt as much as they thought it would. This might be
true in some cases, but that does not mean it will not be painful for you.

The big thing with tattoos is regret. You may love Tinkerbelle or Mickey Mouse now, but do you
really want them to chill out on your body forever?

If you are a woman who wishes to have children someday, you have to realize that your body is
going to be stretched and stressed. You may end up with a lovely stretch mark running through
your tattoo that you thought was such a good idea to get at the time. You may also have issues
getting certain jobs depending on the location of your tattoo.

Usually, a large part of the regret felt later on is based on what kind of tattoo one gets. For
example, you may decide that it would be a good idea to get the name of your significant other.

You figure that you love him or her so much, and you are going to be together forever.

Unfortunately, unless your life is a romantic comedy, you probably will not be with this person
forever. Therefore, you are likely to regret getting his or her name tattooed.

Originality is also an issue with ink. You may think that you are the biggest Disney fan in the
world. You may know all of the movies, characters and lines. However, if you choose to get an
iconic Disney character tattooed on you, chances are there are thousands of other people with
that same tattoo. For some, that might not be a big deal, but others may want something more
unique.

The sad truth is that just about every option has been exercised. It is genuinely difficult to get a
unique tattoo these days. Social media makes it even more of a challenge. Every time someone
posts a picture of their tattoo on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, there is a chance that someone
else is going to get one that is similar.

I am not saying that nobody should ever get a tattoo. I am simply saying that a lot of thought
should go into it.

From what you are getting, to where you are getting it, every aspect of the tattooing process is
important.
