Buffalo a better city than its reputation suggests

How many times have you heard the phrase, "I can't wait to get out of Buffalo," either being
said by your friends, classmates, or even yourself? I'll admit that I used to say the same thing.

However, once I opened my eyes to all of the beauty and growth taking place in my home city, I
realized how ignorant I had been.

I thought Buffalo was too small, cold and not exciting enough for me. Growing up, I lived in a
small suburb south of Buffalo, so I wasn't downtown that often. I went for Bisons and Sabres
games, the waterfront, Shea's Performing Arts Center and various school field trip destinations,
and while those are some of my favorite downtown destinations, I wasn't there nearly enough to
form a valid opinion of the city.

Today, I'm older and more independent than I was before, so I've had more opportunities to
explore the Queen City. Through my experiences as a student at Buffalo State and my internship
with the City of Buffalo, I've been able to learn all about the momentum the city has. I
now know that Buffalo truly is a promising city and that we're very lucky to have a campus
that's located right in the action. I've fallen in love with the city that I've always lived close to,
and I'd like to help you do the same.

Instead of dreaming of which new city I'll move to once I graduate, I'm now dreaming of living
in the heart of my own city so that I can be a part of all the action. This is such an exciting city,
and if you just open your heart to the new opportunities and places just like I did, you'll find
yourself reconsidering any previous doubts you've had about Buffalo.

Buffalo is also a very diverse city. With all of the cultures represented in our local businesses,
I promise you that there's a shop or a restaurant somewhere in the city that has exactly what
you're looking for.

As opposed to staying in the suburbs or leaving the city to shop and eat, I'd suggest you visit
locally-owned restaurants, markets and shops in the Elmwood Village and Grant-Ferry District,
which are quite close to our college. Global Villages, Lexington Co-Operative Market, Organic 3
Cafe, Spoiled Rotten, Spot Coffee, Sweetness 7 Café, Vineeta International Foods and anything
on Elmwood are just some of the many businesses that I've recently stumbled upon near Buffalo
State that I highly recommend you visit as well.

If you're more towards the heart of downtown and near the waterfront, I promise that you'd love
a meal at Butterwood Sweet and Savory, Cabaret, Laughlins, Pearl Street Grill and Brewery,
Pan-American Grill and Brewery, Salsarita's, Templeton Landing, The Chocolate Bar or The
Hatch Restaurant, just to name a few.

If you're interested in the arts, I encourage you visit the two art galleries that we're lucky enough
to learn beside. Both the Albright Knox Art Gallery and the Burchfield Penney Art Center have
many amazing works of art and interesting exhibits on display that may impress you. Bring your
friends or a date and have fun conversing about, looking at and enjoying the talent that fills both
of those museums.

Also, check out the local performances, festivals and shows going on throughout the city. There
are always concerts, events, plays and recitals going on.

Before you buy your one-way ticket out of here, I encourage you to first open your mind and
heart to the City of Good Neighbors. Consider staying here after college to further the impact
that you're having on Buffalo's positive progress. I'll help you explore our city and find
the perfect places to find unique treasures and delicious foods. The possibilities are endless, and
now that I've let you in on the secret that we live in one of the best cities in the nation, we can't
say this city isn't exciting anymore.

The City of Buffalo is experiencing tremendous growth and momentum, and I'd love for you to
join in the excitement. Join me and take advantage of all of the amazing opportunities our city
has to offer.
