Comedy show hypes Mondays

Buffalo State's WBNY radio station are currently airing a catchy new radio show called "Bo
and Ricky in the morning" every Monday at 10 a.m.
Host Scott Gattie and co-host Ricky Cumpston discuss topics of interest to the Buffalo State
campus and community, while also discussing national and local issues and making wacky
references to different television and radio shows.
The talk show is based off of a sub-talk show within the NBC sitcom "Community"
called "Troy and Abed in the morning," a comedy show which parodies film and television
while referencing pop culture and current events.
According to Gattie, the purpose of this show is to entertain students.
"The show is something that people can engage and be entertained by," Gattie said.
Gattie describes it as a show that pays homage to "Troy and Abed in the Morning."
Cumpston also stated that the show appeals to students depending on their interest in pop
culture history.
"If you have a radio show that can be entertaining and bring laughter to people, especially
on a Monday, then you can lighten their mood," Cumpston said.
When asked about the uniqueness of this show, WBNY's general manager, Nick Stutzman,
said, "No one else on the radio is doing this, we can go out of the ordinary in talk radio."
Stutzman said he hopes the show will help students become a part of the station and use
many other resources that Buffalo State's campus has to offer.
Because WBNY is open to Buffalo State College students and non-students, anyone who
would like to be a part of the show or the station is welcome.
"We're open arms and try to embrace as many people as we can," Gattie said.
In addition to his new show, Gattie, a senior, said he has recently been promoted to
productions director at WBNY.
He describes himself as a "meticulous, ridiculous, rock history nerd that loves to do radio."
His journey to become a part of radio started when he volunteered for his high school's
television station. From there, he found out about Buffalo State's radio station.
"WBNY is the reason why I went to Buffalo State College," Gattie said. "We just want to have
fun and hope that our listeners have fun as well. We take our funny business very serious."
Gattie and Cumpston said they are hoping to get renewed for another season in the fall
semester.
