Dr. Tang could do better at explaining, but mostly Actuary was difficult because it needs to be difficult if you want to pass the first exam (I did). Tang had hw due on days class wasn't even held. The problems were stressful and sometimes the textbook didn't show how to do similar ones. But Tang is so friendly and is in his office ready to help AT ALL HOURS!
Dr. Tang is a great prof.. He demands a lot of work. Its not a walk in the park. But you walk out knowing it all. Hes a very friendly prof.. Fun to talk to and very understanding
Tang is an outstanding prof., but you will do a lot of work in this class. However, you really learn the material well, which is great as this course is geared toward students planning on taking the actuarial exams or studying statistics in grad school.
I almost failed this class, so I had to drop. I had some experience in math from AP Calc so I remembered some things, but his explanations are always longer and difficulter than necessary, and his accent doesn't help. Problem sessions were mandatory and lasted hours. friendly guy, but don't take the class unless you're a math/physics major.
There is no teacher in the Math department more dedicated than Dr.Tang. If he is not teaching, he is almost always in his office, even on Sundays. The homework is always challenging but the weekly problem sections are incredibly accommodating. All of his courses take a lot of work, but you leave feeling like you've actually learned something useful.
He is a friendly man who wants to help you learn as much as possible. He gives tough HW problems which are not always explained how to do in the textbook. But the nighttime problem session helps you a ton. If you put in a lot of work, you can get a great grade. 2 exams & a final.
Took calc 1 in high school and again with Dr. Tang. can be a little difficult to understand his accent sometimes but he is very hillarious. problem sessions are a pain but they help A LOT he gives you a "second chance" on the final which helps alot. he does play favorites though and will let you know if you are one of them. i would recommend
prof. Tang can be intimidating for the first weeks of courses, but that's just to weed out unmotivated students. Tang is a very hillarious man who strongly cares about his students. Problem Sessions can be tedious but they're always accommodating and everyone leaves with a smile on their face. Every math major should take Tang once before graduating!
