New web site lets students know what's 'buzzing' around campus

There's a buzz on campus that's hard to ignore and it doesn't have to do with the sound of
the construction on the new technology building.

The Bengal Buzz, a new website and guide to social life on campus, will launch on Saturday.
It was created with the help of Collegiate Crown, a PR boutique that offers services to
entrepreneurial college students.

According to Steven London, sophomore journalism student and the founder and president
of the website, the Bengal Buzz is an online publication that ties in pop culture, fashion,
music and advice topics with everyday events and the Buffalo State College lifestyle.

Find out what to wear for a night out, which spots around campus to hit up, keep updated
with Kim Kardashian's baby drama, all while getting tips on balancing schoolwork and
nightlife, all on one website.

"Being a communications major, I'm intrigued with all these topics and find it important
for our community to have a one-stop website to check out everything as a whole," London
said.

The Bengal Buzz attempts to address the problem of lack of visibility regarding campus life.

"I feel like Buffalo State is missing availability when it comes to campus news and affairs,"
said Keiana Burton, sophomore and chief editor of the entertainment section.

"As a student, I want to come to a site where I can learn about my school and at the same
time learn about outside things, such as fashion and entertainment."

The web site features four major pages, with different sub-topics within each. The pages
are Campus News, Fashion, Entertainment, and Life and Times.

Various areas will be covered, including nightlife, campus groups, fashion trends, Greek
life, celebrity gossip, movie reviews, up-and-coming music and artists, health and fitness,
tips on stress and more. A section called "Campus Look" will showcase a student on campus
with a trendy outfit, including a short interview about their style.

The launch will feature five to six stories in each section, as well as a section called "In-Case
You Missed The Buzz," which highlights all the major events that happened in the first half
of April.

"I see The Bengal Buzz becoming a home away from home for Buff State students," said
Kyle Washington, sophomore and chief editor for men's fashion and lifestyle.

"It will be easily accessible via the main website, Twitter, Youtube, and eventually a launch
of TheBengalBuzz app. When our audience views the website, they are getting the inside
mix of Buff State."

According to London, timeliness is vital to The Bengal Buzz. The Campus News and
Entertainment sections will be updated daily, while the Fashion and Life and Times
sections will be updated at least five times a week.

"The more writers we have, the more content," London said. "Keeping our readers current
is the most important thing."

The team agreed that creating the web site was stressful, but the finished product is worth
the workload.

"Holding the title of manager is no joke," Washington said. "It is time-consuming, with
hectic back-to-back schedules. But every day the same level of commitment and passion is
delivered from both of my sections."

"Being the president of a team, especially when it's for something you are so passionate
about, can become challenging and stressful," London said. "But I am blessed to have an
amazing team who helps me out tremendously, as well as amazing writers who are eager to
share and showcase their talents as journalists."

The staff has created the web site in hopes of expanding and leaving a legacy that will be
around for many years to come.

"Hopefully we become a student organization that can continue on even after I graduate,"
London said, "And pass down the torch to the next team who is willing to continue to strive
for the publication."

Along with the launch of the web site, there will be a Bengal Buzz Social held from 5 to 7
p.m. on April 19 at the New Science Building Atrium. Everyone can learn more about the
publication and network about different topics.

"I hope this site will be the homepage on a lot of people's computers," Burton added.
