Halloween on campus
With over 81 student organizations on campus, finding a way to celebrate Halloween is certainly not hard to come by. Various organizations will be hosting parties and events starting Oct. 26 and running through Halloween, Oct. 31.
Kicking off the festivities is balloon man. Balloon man will be making free Halloween themed balloon creations for students Oct. 26 in the Student Union lobby from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Coalition for Ceramic Designers will be hosting a pumpkin carving event Oct. 27 in Upton Hall 129 from 6 to 7 p.m. Be sure to bring your own pumpkin and carving tools.
C.R.A.G.G. (Campus Role-playing Anime and Gaming Group) will be hosting a themed costume party Oct. 27 from 7 to 11 p.m. in the Social Hall.
This year Black Active Minds will be having its annual Halloween party for kids, "Costume Clubhouse," Oct. 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Fireside Lounge.
For this event B.A.M. has reached out to many local daycares and centers, such as Campus West Daycare, Family College and the Asarese Center, inviting parents to bring their children for a night of fun and games.
"Kids are the focus for the entire event," said Lakisha Forde, president of B.A.M. "We will have a huge piñata, different games for them to play, prizes, pizza and candy bags for them to take home."
Tha Ink Club will be holding "Trick or Treat for Cans," an event where anyone can donate non-perishable food items to benefit local Buffalo shelters. Donations can be dropped off anytime in the Student Union from Oct. 28 through Oct. 29.
The Lens will be hosting an "Ol Hollows Eve" party in celebration of their first magazine release. The party will take place Oct. 30 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Assembly Hall.
The Lens debuts four issues a year, two per semester. The magazine acts as a showcase for Buffalo State students to have their poetry, short stories, photography, articles, jokes, etc., published.
"At our magazine release party we will be featuring a photographers art, have some spoken word performances, candy and snacks, bobbing for apples and the chance for attendees to mingle," said Lewis Sepulveda, president of The Lens.
This event is open to all Buffalo State students and The Lens welcomes any new members.
Closing out the Halloween celebrations is the Art Education Association. The group will be offering free face painting to students on Oct. 31 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Student Union lobby.
"We will have various designs available such as butterflies, tiger stripes or more ghoulish designs like vampires," said Zoe Fabian, president of the Art Education Association. "I'm sure that any of our members who are painting will be open to any other suggestions."
