Henry and Dunham earn SUNYAC titles

The men's and women's track and field teams placed fourth and third, respectively, out of eight teams
Saturday in the SUNYAC Indoor Championships at the College of Brockport.
The women just barely edged out fourth-place Brockport to earn their finish, scoring half a point higher.
Sasha Henry and Jazmin Dunham helped pace the women's top-three finish. Henry earned two
individual titles, winning the 60-meter dash (7.63) and the 200-meter dash (25.29).
Henry's 60-meter time set a meet record. Although she set the mark, Henry had hopes for a better
score.
"I wanted to run a 7.59," she said.
Nonetheless, Henry was satisfied with her time, as well as setting the record.
Dunham earned an individual title in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing with a time of 8.91 seconds to also
set a new meet record.
Several other women earned quality points for the team. Treasure Glymph scored in three events, while
Jazlyn Porter and Shuntone Pricher both scored in two others.
Hampered by injuries and illness, the women's team was able to earn third place with some unexpected
help. Assistant coach Dustin Dimit saw athletes who weren't expected to do so, step up and score points
for the team.
"Some people stepped in and did things that they wouldn't usually do," Dimit said.
Other contributing factors to the women's success were athletes finishing where they were supposed
to, as well as several earning their best times of the season.
While the women's third-place finish met expectations, the men's fourth-place finish did not.
Cory Cox and Rich Pete led the men's team. Cox earned an individual title in the long jump, while Pete
earned an individual title in the triple jump.
Cox's jump of 7.33 meters broke the Buffalo State record of 7.21 meters, previously held for 20 years by
Bob Jones.
Pete won the triple jump with a jump of 14.50 meters, while also placing fourth in the long jump. Pete
felt great about winning an individual title, but hoped for more team success.
"Winning the team title would have felt even better," he said.
Bumkoth Jiak helped the team with a second-place finish in the 800-meter run (1:55.92), while Todd
Colas earned third in the 200-meter dash (22.48).
Pete, along with Dimit, had higher expectations than that of the end result. While Dimit believes some
of the athletes met expectations individually, the expectations of the whole team were more important.
"We look at it more as a team sport, and the team didn't meet an expectation," he said.
Moving forward, Dimit acknowledges the team needs to continue to keep working, and more
importantly, "work more as a unified team."
From both the men's and women's teams, Dimit noted several athletes turning out national qualifying
performances as well as setting conference records as the biggest positives at the Championships.
Up next for the teams is the ECAC Championships. Only a select number of athletes, who are on the
edge of making it into the national championships, will compete.
For Dimit, the goal of the ECACs is to give athletes who are close their best chance to qualify for
nationals.
The ECAC Championships will take place on March 1 and 2 at The Armory in New York City.
