Burke let go after down year

After spending seven seasons as head coach of the Buffalo State women's hockey team, Robert Burke
was fired last week.
Burke, who started with the Bengals in 2006, compiled a career record of 47-107-14. The Bengals won
just once during their final 11 games this past season, and finished 6-18-1 overall, 3-13 in the ECAC
West.
Burke, a graduate and former hockey player at SUNY Fredonia, was the second head coach in the
program's history. Despite the team's recent shortcomings, there was accomplishment from Burke
during his tenure.
He led Buffalo State to their first ECAC West postseason appearance in five years and four players
earned All-ECAC West honorable mentions under Burke's tutelage. Burke also had 18 players make the
ECAC West All-Academic team and 29 make the dean's list.
Right now, the search for Burke's replacement is in the preliminary stages.
"We are currently waiting for applicants," sports information director Jeff Ventura said. "Once we know,
we will inform players and students on their next coach."
