Honor those who fight on Veteran's Day
This Friday is Veterans Day, a day when we respect and honor those who have served and are currently serving in the U.S. military.
Just because this is a college campus doesn't mean we are a community without direct military ties. According to the Buffalo State website, "Buffalo State enrolled 1,308 veterans, active-duty military, reservists and military dependents this fall," which is 384 more students enrolled with military ties than last spring.
Buffalo State also shares a Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program with Niagara University and is ranked as a military-friendly school according to militaryfriendlyschools.com.
The campus is doing its part to honor those with military ties by hosting an Armed Services Reunion on Saturday at the Veterans Memorial outside Bacon Hall following the annual Veterans' Memorial March on Thursday.
Campus administration does its part to show gratitude for veterans and active military members. Especially this Friday, students should find a way to display gratitude as well. Even if for a moment, use the day off to reflect on why this day is a national holiday.
Although everyone might not agree with war or why countries go to war, there are still people risking their lives to fight for their country. That is what Veterans' Day is about: honoring the people behind the trenches to the men and women who continue to risk it all for us.
